Week 5

Although Caden will be 6 weeks young this coming Sunday, I really needed to catch up with an upload of new pictures.

Caden sure is growing fast and healthy. He is weighing about 10lbs now and started "cooing" this past week. He also makes this funny noise that sort of sounds like a chirping, very cute it is. He still has his feeding routine, which is every three hours. Every so often he'll sleep for 4 or 5 hours at night but prior to sleeping at night he is up from 7 to midnight fussing. That fussing we think is from gas, and boy does he have gas! ;)

Mom and Caden enjoyed a few trips out of the house and they are trying to do so at least once a day. They visited Starbucks yesterday to meet some moms from the Mommy's Group that Catherine attends each week with Caden. They also went for a stroll to Campbell park. Yea! Must take advantage of the beautiful weather before the rain season comes. The cold weather is here with temperatures dropping to 38 and 42 in the mornings. But that is the weather that Boone and I love during our morning walks.

One Handed Monkey

I never thought HTML tags could be so difficult but typing such via my iPhone can be! Out walking Boone in this beautiful 46 degree weather I figured to try creating a blog update during the walk. A bit hard, for starters, to walk-type-watch traffic-listen for other dogs and typing left handed. Yes, logging one handed, lefty :$. Maybe this blog should be named "leftbeans" or "one handed bean" LOL

The Kite Runner, no departure

Just couldn't get past the 3rd chapter. I found it a bit too dry and slow. I've had wine's that have opened faster than this ;) I tried though, really I did but it just wasn't captivating me as it did for so many others. In fact a movie is due out on this in Dec 07 and might be worth renting when it makes it to the States. Back to the shelve for this one.

Shaking in so many ways

The past few days has been like a roller coaster. Many fun days, some interesting experiences and lots and lots of learning curves.... oh and did I mention FUN days!? :)

Wednesday we had a good jolt from a 5.6 earthquake. That was the strongest shaker I have ever felt, the previous being 4.2, and let me tell you that there is a huge difference between those two sizes. Throughout the week Chris and I exchanged idea's and theories through an email thread discussing where the safest place is to hold up during an earthquake. The discussion goes back and forth with each of us quoting documentation, articles and training on the topic. What is interesting is the fact that Chris and I seem to be the only people aware that there are some safe area's to turn to. The many people I brought this subject to seemed to be quoting the typical documentation that we all were lectured on during high school, which was, dive under a table. Hmmm... take a look at your table at home.. any one, just pick one because you don't get to pick when the quake hits. Now looking at that table, do you think that table will save you? Do you think you'll be crushed under your hemidown coffee table or your Ikea

Thursday we learned that Caden's Bilirubin count (Jaundice) dropped to 11 points.. yee-haw! He & Mom are managing it very well by both staying healthy and eating well. As of today, Caden's yellowish in his eyes have transpired over to a hazy white color.

Friday I awoke around the 3am mark and as I rolled over in bed toward the commotion that woke me, all I saw were a bunch of tiny toes staring back at me. Caden was being fed by a very sleepy Mom. All I could do was support her in any needs and wants and when they were through they went back to sleep and Boone and I headed out for a walk. At 5:30 in the morning the air is slightly chilled at 49 degree's with no wind and nothing but the beautiful stars and planets shining under a Moonless morning.

On Saturday Caden received his first bath at home and seemed to not mind the water at all. Dad is hoping that maybe one day in the far future he could enjoy a surf session with his Son :)

Since Sunday Caden has become a bit fussy at times. We have been digging hard to figure out how to help him. What worked yesterday doesn't work today. Like the swaddle today consists of him needing two hands out where maybe two days earlier he was fine completely tucked in. I just got a call from Catherine and our friend Liz provided us some Mommy insight. Liz swaddled him tightly and he slept, with all digits tucked in. Go figure!

Catherine just weighed Caden and he is up to 7 lbs 11 ounces. No wonder he is fussy at times, the boy is growing beyond measures! LOL
